Why use text messaging at conferences and tradeshows?

Most, if not all, delegates and visitors attending a conference or tradeshow today have cell phones. The cell phone is the most convenient device for interacting with delegates during an event. Unlike a PC that has to be powered up and connected to a Wi-Fi  network, if available, a cell phone is always with a person, quick to activate and continuously connected.

Apart from voice communications, text messaging (SMS) is the most widely used function on cell phones. The convenience to receive and send short messages makes it ideal for delegate interaction during a conference or tradeshow.

 

How widely is text messaging (SMS) used?

Over 75 billion text messages are sent each month in the US - growing at a rate of over 100% per year!

 

How many cell phone users are there?

There are over 3 billion cell phone subscribers worldwide and over 260 million in the USA.

 

What is the cost of the service?

A set-up fee of  $995 is charged per event together with a small variable charge based on the number of delegates (M2M), number of messages sent (M2A) and number of ratings received (M2R). For example, the total cost for a conference with 1000 people and 50 presentations is approximately $4,500. For more information on costs, please contact us.

Conference organizers can typically get this service sponsored  for between $12,000 and $15,000.

 

What does the sponsor get?

Sponsors get broad exposure to delegates and visitors in a number of ways:

  • They can include a short message at the end of each text message sent - this ensures broad and continuous brand visibility right on the cell phones of delegates
  • They will be entitled to send one promotional text message to all delegates during a conference e.g. please visit our booth, new product announcement, special offer, etc
  • Their brand will be included on all materials relating to the Smart Messaging Solutions
  • They will be shown to be sponsor of the Smart Messaging Solutions in the conference publications, website, etc

How do get started?

Using the Smart Messaging Solutions is very straightforward. The main requirement is to request delegates to provide their cell phone numbers as part of the registration process. We will provide sample materials on how to promote and use the messaging services and assist in setting up the system for your events. We will also support your efforts in finding a sponsor.

 

Is the service only available in the USA?

The service is currently available in the USA, Europe and South Africa. It can be extended to other countries and regions on request.
